Who We Are

Steve Hess, LEED AP, CFM

Director, Business Development

Steve has been with McDonald York since 2013; his first job, however, was trimming Christmas trees at age 13. When he first began as a laborer, his favorite part of his job was looking back at the end of the day and seeing what he had his team had accomplished. Now, Steve enjoys seeing a space used as it was designed, by the people it was designed for. One example of this is Walton Orthodontics where the client was an experienced owner who valued great design and construction. Steve and his team were able to renovate the family property into a modern orthodontia office with great light and a wonderful palette of materials. Steve graduated from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill with a Masters in Business. He also has a Bachelor's Degree in Architecture and an Associates Degree in Architectural Technology. He is a member of the Wake County Community Housing Revitalization Board, Urban Land Institute, NAIOP, CoreNet, Healing Transition of Wake County, and Pine Cone which is the Piedmont Council of Traditional Music. Outside of work and his involvement in the community, Steve enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, skiing, listening to live music, and finding a path less traveled on.
