A Family Company
We are very proud that after 100 plus years of building, expanding and maintaining McDonald York’s strong presence in the Triangle construction industry, we remain a family-owned and family-governed business. There is only a small number of large local family-owned commercial building companies remaining in the Triangle construction industry – and McDonald York is pleased to be a part of that elite group.
Our two owners – Smedes York and Jack McDonald, and our 10-member family board of directors - Smedes York, Rosemary York, George York, Parker York, William York, Jack McDonald, Sheila McDonald, Michael McDonald, Colleen McDonald Schmidt and Shannon McDonald Haynie - all of whom live in the Triangle are active and involved in the company and the community. They share a commitment to ensuring the company remains a privately-held company owned by the McDonald and York families for generations to come, and they take great pride in being stewards of this legacy.
Our 4-person executive management team – Heather Denny, Tanner Holland, Mike Kriston and Emily Massey - and a deep bench of dedicated and loyal managers share a devotion to the family culture and values they have helped create. The McDonald York family philosophy applies equally to all our employees. We take great pride in referring to all our employees as “McDonald York family members”. We know our employees share a special bond that comes from working for a company that promotes family values.
Being a family company means the company is a place where employees believe their work has special meaning and is more than just a job. It is a company where there is a sense of caring and friendships are created. It is a company where its rich history is honored and exciting new legacy is being created everyday. It is a company that balances an individual's desire to improve his or her career with the need to work in a productive team environment. It is a company where acting in an ethical and respectful manner is always top of mind.
